The Czech artillery continues its successful service within the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In addition to the 155-mm self-propelled howitzer DITA, another Czech self-propelled howitzer, the DANA M2 with a caliber of 152 mm, is also on combat duty.

Its features have been discussed on "Army TV." This DANA howitzer is operating as part of the 56th Separate Motorized Infantry Mariupol Brigade. The first models of the DANA howitzer were produced back in the 1970s in Czechoslovakia, but it has since undergone several upgrades, with the Mariupol Brigade receiving the more modern DANA M2.

Compared to its predecessor, the upgraded artillery system features an enhanced fire control, management, and guidance system. The DANA M2 is equipped with an automated fire control system. The commander simply needs to set the target parameters and press the "trigger," while the rest of the crew monitors whether the automation functions correctly. These howitzers underwent functional testing in the Armed Forces of Ukraine back in 2021. As of 2023, all 26 units contracted have been delivered to Ukraine.

To operate such a howitzer, a team of five is required. The firing range with a standard projectile is 18.7 km, while a rocket projectile can reach a distance of 25 km. This howitzer can fire up to five shells per minute. In addition to the main 152-mm gun, the howitzer is equipped with a 12.7-mm NSVT machine gun.

According to technical specifications, the maximum speed of the vehicle on the road can reach 80 km/h, and in the field, up to 25 km/h. Practical use shows that the howitzer can achieve even more. "On average terrain, it can exceed expectations — reaching 40 or even 50 km/h. On a well-trodden field road, it can go up to 60. On the highway, we accelerated this vehicle to 90 km/h in an emergency situation," said the DANA driver, Yevgeny.

Previously, "Telegraph" reported on another, more modern German self-propelled howitzer RCH 155. Ukraine is set to start receiving them in 2025.
