The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and his predecessor, Petro Poroshenko, have met three times over the past six years. Only one of those encounters was a one-on-one meeting.
Poroshenko shared this information in an interview with "Ukrainian Truth." According to him, the first meeting took place during the inauguration in 2019.
"The second was when Zelensky invited me to his office on Bankova Street to ask for my vote on the 'anti-Kolomoisky bill.' Before he began speaking, I said, 'Volodymyr Oleksandrovych, don’t waste your emotions; I will vote for this bill, and I don't need anything in return. There will be no reciprocal requests from me,'" — the former president recounted.
He added that the third meeting occurred on the first day of the full-scale war. They spoke by phone at 7 a.m. Poroshenko noted that it was the first time Zelensky answered the call, as he had not done so previously. They agreed that either before or after the meeting with the faction leadership, they would have the opportunity to talk.
"The conversation was very brief and devoid of any emotions. I will repeat this for authenticity. I said: 'First position: I am no longer the opposition leader. You did not say this; I said it. Second position: you are no longer my opponent from this moment on. You did not say this; I told you. We have one common enemy: for me, it is not Zelensky, and for you, it is not Poroshenko. Our common enemy is Putin,'" — Poroshenko recalled.
In turn, Zelensky thanked the former president for his statements. He also inquired if Poroshenko needed anything.
"I replied: 'This time I have some requests. I need 8,000 automatic rifles. I already have thousands of people in my office who have come to defend Kyiv.' To his credit, he immediately called the late (Minister of Internal Affairs – ed.) Monastyrsky, and we received the rifles in a short time," — Poroshenko concluded.
Let us remind you that earlier, "Telegraph" reported that Volodymyr Zelensky outlined the conditions under which sanctions against Petro Poroshenko would be lifted.
