In Germany, early parliamentary elections will take place in February. Against this backdrop, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is concerned about billionaire Elon Musk's support for the far-right party "Alternative for Germany" (AfD).
Scholz stated that he is not troubled by Musk's attacks on him and other German politicians. He pointed out that social democrats have been accustomed since the last century to wealthy media entrepreneurs who do not value social democratic policies and often express their opinions openly.
What worries the German Chancellor much more is the American billionaire's backing of the far-right AfD party.
"I am much more concerned, rather than being offended, by Musk's endorsement of an extreme right party like the AfD, which advocates rapprochement with Putin's Russia and aims to weaken transatlantic relations," Scholz said.
He also responded to a number of other statements made by Musk. In particular, the billionaire referred to the German Chancellor as a "fool" and the country's President Frank-Walter Steinmeier as a "non-democratic tyrant" on his social media platform X.
"The Federal President is not an anti-democratic tyrant, and Germany is a strong and stable democracy. Musk can say whatever he wants. In Germany, the will of the citizens is important, not the unstable statements of a billionaire from the USA," emphasized the German politician.
Additionally, he mentioned that he would not invite Musk to meet in his office.
"I am not thinking about winning Mr. Musk's favor. I will gladly leave that to others. There are many people on social media who want to attract attention with outrageous slogans. The rule is: do not feed the troll," Scholz summarized.
