Ukraine aims to become a member of the European Union in a shorter timeframe than anticipated. This requires perseverance.
This was announced by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in a documentary film about Ukraine's western direction, which was broadcast during a telethon.
The head of state shared that when Ukraine received candidate status for EU membership, he met with all the leaders of the member countries. At that time, most warned that "from candidacy to negotiations takes 6-8 years, and from negotiations to EU membership could take another 10 years."
"We will go through all these stages, I am confident, and we will be in the EU sooner than expected. If we continue at this pace, running forward, and remain persistent," the president noted.
He pointed out that Ukraine has passed a number of laws "that EU countries took years to enact" due to disputes and power struggles. In Ukraine, this stage went "unnoticed" as it was "skipped over."
