One official who spoke with Trump's team stated that they are ready for the U.S. to focus on providing security guarantees to Ukraine, which they recognize as inevitable.
"In exchange for these commitments, Trump can expect Europe to take on a larger share of the burden of any potential deal," the journalists write.
According to a source from the publication, Europeans understand that the U.S. expects them to provide the bulk of the troops, and Trump believes that the war in Ukraine is fundamentally a European issue.
Trump has also made it clear that the U.S. does not plan to be directly involved in the reconstruction of Ukraine. Some aspects, as they suggested, will be taken on by the private sector.
Recall that Trump stated that Volodymyr Zelensky should not have allowed this war to happen.
