The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, has effectively justified Russia's aggression against Ukraine, following in the footsteps of U.S. President Donald Trump, and accused Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky of unwillingness to "hold elections." Reports TSN. This information is being reported by Kontrakty.UA.
The Slovak politician made this statement during his speech at the American conservatives' event, CPAC, as noted by "Yevropeiska Pravda".
In his address, Fico praised the American president, claiming he is restoring "peace to Europe." Moreover, the Prime Minister cynically emphasized that the Kremlin had reasons for its aggression.
"No one denies that Russia's use of military force in Ukraine was a violation of international law. However, Russia had serious security reasons for this, as it had long been misled regarding NATO's expansion," he stated.
According to him, the "conflict" could have been resolved much more quickly, but "the overwhelming majority of EU member states, except for Slovakia and Hungary, supported the idea that the war in Ukraine should be used to politically and economically weaken Russia."
In his speech, the Slovak Prime Minister also backed Trump's recent statements about Volodymyr Zelensky, asserting that the latter "actually needs this war."
"When there is a war, there can be no democratic elections... When there is a war, it is difficult to investigate where a huge portion of the funds provided to Ukraine has gone," Fico added.
He remarked that "peace negotiations" may not lead to a fair and lasting peace for Ukraine and its territorial integrity.
"However, Europe must assist the U.S. president in quickly putting an end to the senseless killings in Ukraine and not hinder him in achieving this goal," he believes.
