The UK Defence Secretary, John Healey, spoke in London at the Institute for Government, where he discussed the upcoming challenges for the country’s defense policy and reforms within the Ministry of Defence.
He noted that a few weeks ago, when he confirmed his participation in the event, he could not have predicted that geopolitical events, particularly the war in Ukraine, would draw such attention to his views on changes in the defense system.
"The decisions we make in the coming weeks will determine not only the outcome of the conflict in Ukraine but also the security of our world for many generations to come. The nature of governance involves addressing such challenges," he emphasized.
The Minister stressed that true leadership requires not only addressing current issues but also being prepared for reforms to ensure future security. According to him, today’s situation demands a new approach to defense.
"We have entered a new era of threats, and this necessitates a new era for defense," he stated, highlighting the need to modernize the UK's defense strategy.
