As noted by the Ministry of Economy, this is detailed in the "Rapid Assessment of Damage and Needs for Recovery (RDNA4)" conducted by the World Bank, the government of Ukraine, the European Union, and the UN. This information is reported by Kontrakty.UA.
Compared to the previous document, the assessment of needs for demining has decreased by $4.8 billion due to progress in surveying and clearing the lands where hostilities occurred.
According to Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Yulia Svyrydenko, the reduction in the required amount reflects the significant work accomplished by the Ministry of Economy in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense, the State Emergency Service, private and international demining operators, and other stakeholders.
"And we have room for growth – the report authors note that the active development of innovations such as the use of sensor technologies, aerial photography, and machine learning can further accelerate and thus reduce the cost of demining," she stated.
Since demining areas will take decades, it is crucial to build long-term institutional capacity and develop partnerships with international organizations involved in demining activities. Therefore, it is advised to expand the use of innovations and ensure long-term investments in the humanitarian demining sector.
