This is reported by RBK-Ukraine, referencing a survey conducted by the "Democratic Initiatives" foundation and the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KMIS). This information is also shared by Kontrakty.UA.
32% of respondents hold an opposing view.
The largest percentage of respondents who believe that politicians should make decisions based on the will and sentiments of the majority of the population resides in the western regions (62%), while the smallest percentage is found in the eastern regions (53%). However, this difference is partly due to a larger proportion of respondents in the eastern regions who could not select either of the two proposed answer options.
Extremely poor and poor respondents more frequently agreed that politicians should make decisions based on the will and sentiments of the majority: 64% and 62% compared to 56% and 55% among conditionally well-off and well-off respondents, respectively.
In contrast, conditionally well-off and well-off individuals somewhat more often agreed that politicians should make decisions based on the conclusions of authoritative experts: 35% and 36% compared to 28% among the poor and 25% among the extremely poor respondents.
The survey was conducted by the "Democratic Initiatives" Foundation in collaboration with the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology from December 6, 2024, to January 9, 2025. A total of 2,580 respondents aged 18 and older were surveyed, residing in areas controlled by the Ukrainian government, excluding Donetsk, Sumy, and Kherson regions, where the survey could not be conducted due to security restrictions.
Recall that according to the survey by the "Democratic Initiatives" Foundation and KMIS, 46% of respondents are willing to take risks for personal freedom and guarantees of all civil rights.
Meanwhile, 34% chose the option "of course, both freedom and security are important, but in exchange for security, I am willing to give up a portion of my rights and civil liberties to the state."
