Thus, four media organizations have been "evicted" from office spaces in the Pentagon: The New York Times, National Public Radio (NPR), NBC News, and Politico.
In place of these outlets, media considered more favorable to Republicans, and specifically to Trump, will occupy the spaces. This includes New York Post, One America News Network, Breitbart News Network, and HuffPost News.
The Pentagon explained this move as the initiation of an "annual media rotation program," which involves changing one print publication, one online resource, one television channel, and one radio station each year to allow other media outlets the opportunity for permanent access to the Pentagon. At the same time, the Pentagon emphasized that journalists from the "evicted" publications will remain members of the Defense Department press corps.
A representative from NBC News expressed disappointment with the decision made by the Trump administration. Other "evicted" media have not yet commented on the situation.
"We have used this office for many decades. Despite the challenges, we will continue to report events honestly and accurately," said the NBC News representative.
The Pentagon Press Association expressed concern over this unprecedented action by the Trump administration.
Changes at the Pentagon
It is worth noting that the Pentagon is now led by former host of the Trump-friendly Fox News channel - Pete Hegseth. Even before his appointment, Hegseth's candidacy faced criticism, and media outlets reported that Trump might consider offering the position of Secretary of Defense to someone else.
Following the rotations, the Pentagon stripped former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley of his security access. Hegseth ordered an investigation into him.
Additionally, it should be noted that before leaving the White House, Joe Biden granted a preemptive pardon to retired General Mark Milley.
