Poland faces a worker shortage: which professions will be in high demand by 2025?

Analysts point out that the shortage of workers in manual professions has been observed for many years, with the situation remaining virtually unchanged each year.
Польше не хватает рабочих: какие профессии станут "золотыми" в 2025 году.

The main reasons are challenging working conditions, low wages, and a lack of desire to work in difficult climatic conditions or on a rotational basis. Reports TCN. This information is provided by Contracts.UA.

In 2025, Poland is expected to face the largest labor shortage among workers in physical jobs, particularly in sectors such as construction, transportation, and assembly work. Employers will be primarily looking for roofers, drivers, warehouse workers, locksmiths, assemblers, earth-moving equipment operators, builders, and welders.

This is reported by the international employment agency Gremi Personal.

Occupations are considered scarce when the number of job vacancies significantly exceeds the average number of unemployed in that field.

Why is physical labor becoming less popular?

Analysts note that the shortage of workers in physical professions has been observed for many years, and the situation remains virtually unchanged each year. The main reasons include tough working conditions, low pay, and a lack of willingness to work in difficult climatic conditions or on a rotational basis.

"Every year, the 'Barometer of Professions' shows the same shortage professions, half of which require physical endurance and qualifications. The main issues are the low wage level, harsh working conditions, and long working hours. For drivers, frequent trips are an additional downside. Furthermore, the war in Ukraine has significantly impacted the Polish labor market: due to the exit ban for men, the demand for workers in physical professions has increased even more," explains Yuriy Gryhorenko, chief analyst at Gremi Personal.

Shortage of specialists in medicine and education

In addition to skilled trades, Poland is also experiencing a severe shortage of specialists in the fields of medicine and education. In 2025, the following professions will remain in high demand:

  • doctors;
  • teachers;
  • nurses and midwives;
  • caregivers for the elderly;
  • accounting and finance professionals;
  • military personnel.

Why does Poland lack qualified specialists?

The shortage of specialists in these fields is linked to a demographic crisis. More people are retiring than entering the labor market. Meanwhile, young graduates cannot immediately replace experienced professionals. For instance, a newly graduated doctor cannot replace a surgeon with 25 years of experience.

In this context, the only feasible solution becomes attracting labor migrants, but this process is complicated by bureaucratic procedures and relatively low salary levels in Poland compared to Western Europe.

Can Poland and businesses adapt to new conditions?

A potential solution could be to open the labor market more widely to migrants, although this requires significant changes. The Polish government is considering implementing programs to help foreigners adapt, including:

  • supporting a multicultural work environment;
  • promoting inclusivity and tolerance;
  • simplifying bureaucratic procedures;
  • developing multilingual communications within companies;
  • encouraging large international companies to adopt English as the primary language.

It is worth noting that Ukrainian refugees in Poland living in collective accommodation centers can receive funds for housing rental.
