The White House leader was asked whether he considers Putin a dictator. Trump sidestepped the question, asserting that Putin and Zelensky should meet together because "we want to stop the killings of millions of people and young soldiers."
"I have seen satellite images of the battlefield; you have never seen such pictures. Thousands of soldiers are dying every week, which is why I want to see a ceasefire and bring the agreement to fruition. I believe we have a chance to reach an agreement," the president stated.
"And how to ensure that Russia wants this too?" Trump questioned himself but did not provide an answer, reiterating that "this war should never have started."
Trump's Position on the War in Ukraine
During his election campaign, Donald Trump repeatedly promised to end the war in Ukraine. After taking office as President of the United States, he began making pro-Russian statements last week and effectively blamed the Ukrainian leadership for the onset of the war.
In particular, Trump believes that President Volodymyr Zelensky is a "dictator without elections," as he has done nothing to end the war over the past three years.
On Friday, February 21, the White House leader stated that Russia is to blame for the war, but he also shifted some of the blame onto Zelensky and former US President Joe Biden.
Moreover, according to Trump, Putin wants to reach a peace agreement, but he added that "he should not make a deal because he could take over all of Ukraine."
He is also convinced that Europe has done nothing to stop the war in Ukraine.
