The Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force monitored the movements of the Russian ships that departed from Syria. The British Ministry of Defence emphasized that Russia is evacuating military resources after losing influence over the Syrian government.
“These ships left Syria after Putin abandoned his ally Assad, but they were still armed and loaded with munitions. This indicates that Russia is weakened but still poses a threat,” stated UK Defence Secretary John Healey.
The British Ministry of Defence added that the war in Ukraine has affected Moscow's ability to support Bashar Assad in power.
It is worth noting that the new leadership in Syria has dissolved the army and various rebel groups and is working on their integration into the country’s new armed forces.
