This is reported by RBK-Ukraine, referencing Rutte in an interview with CNBC during the World Economic Forum in Davos. This information comes from Kontrakty.UA.
"I was very, very pleased with Trump's stance on strengthening sanctions against Russia. We know that the situation in the Russian economy is extremely poor, and sanctions will help," Rutte stated.
The NATO Secretary General expressed hope that the EU would also intensify sanctions against Russia, to "choke" its economy and reduce its military budget.
"Trump is right, Ukraine is closer to Europe, but Trump is also right that this is a geopolitical conflict, so I am confident that the U.S. wants it to end with a good and solid agreement," he added.
Sanctions Against Russia
Since the onset of the full-scale invasion, the West has imposed a series of sanctions and restrictions on the Russian Federation to weaken its economy and ability to wage war. Key measures included disconnection from the SWIFT payment system, freezing assets, and limiting access to technologies, including chips and software.
Yesterday, January 22, Trump stated that he may introduce new sanctions against Russia if dictator Vladimir Putin refuses to negotiate with Ukraine.
