This was stated by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, at the annual conference of EU diplomats, as reported by Kontakty referencing Ukrinform.
“The war in Ukraine remains the central and most consequential crisis for the future of Europe. The Russian full-scale war against Ukraine is soon entering its fourth year. [Russian dictator Vladimir] Putin is trying harder than ever to win this war, with the aim of Ukraine's capitulation. And we know what could happen after, because it has happened before,” said the President of the European Commission.
She emphasized that Putin “will move towards his next goals, as he did after the events of 2008 and 2014.” According to von der Leyen, this is not only about Ukraine's fate; “the fate of Europe is at stake, so the EU's top priority is to empower Ukrainian resistance.”
Von der Leyen highlighted that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion by Russia, the European Union has provided Ukraine with support amounting to 134 billion euros.
“Thanks to the Ukrainian Fund (in the multiannual EU budget for 2024-2027 — ed.) and the G7 loan, we have covered Ukraine's budget deficit for the entire year of 2025. At the same time, we need to expedite the immediate delivery of weapons and ammunition. This will be at the center of our work over the coming weeks,” said the President of the European Commission.
