German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that Germany, along with its allies, will soon begin discussions on security guarantees for Ukraine. Writes TSN. This was reported by Kontrakty.UA.
He mentioned this in an interview with the Funke media group, emphasizing the necessity for Ukraine to maintain a strong army.
“Firstly, it would be good if the war in Ukraine came to an end. But even then, we would still need to ensure a secure future for Ukraine,” Scholz stressed.
According to him, allies will continue to support the Ukrainian army and supply necessary weapons. The Chancellor also noted that the issue of security guarantees will be discussed in the near future.
"After all, nothing is decided over the heads of the Ukrainian people. And we are still far from peace," he emphasized.
It is worth recalling that earlier Olaf Scholz expressed hope that the active phase of the war in Ukraine would conclude this year. He mentioned the need to consider all possible options "regarding how to stop the killings and make peace possible."
