Active efforts are underway in Ukraine to develop a domestic missile defense system capable of intercepting the Russian ballistic missile "Oreshnik." Additionally, negotiations are ongoing with allies who already possess such air defense systems. TSN reports. This information was shared by Kontrakty.UA.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskiy, conveyed this in an interview with Andriy Tsaplienko during the broadcast of TSN.Week.
According to him, only a few air defense systems are capable of intercepting ballistic missiles like the Russian "Oreshnik."
“Unfortunately, we do not have them yet. However, we must do everything possible to acquire them,” the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces stated.
Oleksandr Syrskiy emphasized that the threat posed by the "Oreshnik" necessitates not only active negotiations with allies who have the required air defense systems but also efforts to develop “our own air defense system that would be missile defense capable.”
“And, of course, this should motivate us to create a missile system that could serve as a deterrent against the use of such weapons by the Russians,” he added.
The Commander-in-Chief underscored that work in this direction is actively progressing.
“I hope that we will achieve the desired result in the near future,” he said.
Recall that earlier, NATO's Supreme Allied Commander for Transformation, Admiral Pierre de Villiers, stated that the Alliance must possess long-range weapons to respond to and eliminate threats such as Russian medium-range ballistic missiles "Oreshnik."
