US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made this statement, as noted by The State Department.
Rubio emphasized that the US president is determined to put an end to the war initiated by Russia in Ukraine and to find a solution that "will lead to lasting peace, not just a temporary pause."
"The United States has proposed a simple historic resolution at the United Nations, which we urge all member states to support in order to outline a path to peace," said the American Secretary of State.
According to him, this resolution aligns with Trump's view that the UN must return to its foundational purpose, as stated in its Charter, to maintain international peace and security, particularly through the peaceful resolution of disputes.
"If the UN is truly committed to its original purpose, we must acknowledge that, despite potential difficulties, the goal of lasting peace remains attainable. By supporting this resolution, we affirm that this conflict is horrific, that the UN can help bring it to an end, and that peace is possible," Rubio stated.
Additionally, the American politician stressed that the States believe it is time to commit to ending the war. He stated, "this is a chance to create real momentum towards peace." Rubio called on UN member states to join Washington "in this solemn endeavor."
