Trump failed to fulfill his campaign promise to end the war in Ukraine, according to the New York Times.

Trump's statement about swiftly ending the war with Russia was one of his most sensational promises.
Трамп не сдержал предвыборное обещание завершить войну в Украине, сообщает NYT.

The newly elected president of the United States, Donald Trump, promised to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours, even before he took office. However, this promise was never fulfilled, and hostilities continue even after his inauguration. Reports TSN. This information is shared by Kontakty.UA.

This is reported by The New York Times.

During his campaign, Trump repeatedly stated that he could swiftly bring the war to an end. In June, at a rally, he mentioned that he would do so immediately after winning the election. During the televised debates with Kamala Harris in September, he reiterated that he would conclude the war before becoming president.

This was not a random statement. Trump actively promoted this idea, claiming he would manage to end the war before taking office. However, the promised resolution did not materialize. Following the elections, Trump took no significant steps to address the conflict, and the fighting continues even after his inauguration.

As Senator Richard Blumenthal pointed out, the issue is that Trump does not understand that a peace agreement can only be achieved under conditions of a strong Ukrainian position in negotiations, and he is effectively undermining their stance, which is one of the reasons why the war was not concluded before his inauguration.

Trump is accustomed to exaggerations, and his promise to quickly end the war in Ukraine was part of his image as a problem-solver. However, Trump's promises often go unfulfilled, and even grand statements become empty words. He failed to deliver on his promise to build a wall on the US-Mexico border, did not eliminate the federal budget deficit, did not achieve peace between Israel and Palestine, and did not repeal Obamacare.

However, during his second term, Trump helped to pause hostilities in Gaza by sending an envoy to persuade Israel to agree to a ceasefire. Although the agreement was reached by the Biden administration, Trump's pressure played a crucial role in its implementation.

The war in Ukraine is significantly more complex for Trump, as he will have to start from scratch. Unlike the situation in Gaza, where a plan was already in place, there is no existing peace plan for Ukraine. Just this month, the new presidential envoy for the war in Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, canceled his trip to Kyiv and other European capitals to assess the situation after the inauguration. He expressed hopes of resolving the conflict within 100 days, which is 100 times longer than what Trump promised.

Katherine Stoner, a senior fellow at Stanford University, noted that Trump's promise was absurd. She pointed out that only Russian President Vladimir Putin could end the war within 24 hours, but he could have done that even before the conflict began. Any negotiations, she said, would take more time, regardless of when Trump starts to take action.

Michael Kimmage, author of the book "Collisions" about the Russia-Ukraine conflict, emphasized that Trump's promises have always been "very loose" and perhaps more about enhancing his image than about a real plan.

It is worth reminding that Donald Trump promised at a pre-inauguration rally to end the war in Ukraine and to prevent the start of World War III.
