The President of the United States, Donald Trump, is seriously considering the purchase of Greenland to safeguard American interests in the Arctic. Reports TSN. This is stated by Kontakty.UA.
Regarding this, said U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an interview with journalist Megyn Kelly.
According to him, Trump's remarks about the security situation in the Arctic region, where Greenland is located, are "no joke."
"This is not about acquiring land for the sake of acquiring land. It is in our national interests, and this issue must be addressed,” Rubio emphasized.
The head of the U.S. Department of State noted that it is precisely due to security concerns that President Trump announced his intention to purchase Greenland.
Marco Rubio did not speculate on whether the new occupant of the White House would be able to realize this intention but stressed that this issue is an important priority for the president.
“I believe that... in four years, our interests in the Arctic will be more secure," assured the U.S. Secretary of State.
As is known, the U.S. military maintains a constant presence at the Pituffik Space Base in the northwest of Greenland. This strategic location is vital for the U.S. military and its ballistic missile early warning system, as it provides the shortest route from Europe to North America.
It is worth noting that earlier media reported that President Donald Trump, following his inauguration, called Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and demanded that she sell Greenland.
