This is reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during a press conference. This information is also shared by Kontrakty.UA.
"If Putin plans to attack NATO, he shouldn't even think about it. He will lose. The response will be utterly devastating. We know how powerful NATO's defense capabilities are," Rutte stated.
NATO Must Increase Defense Spending
According to Rutte, given the pace of production growth and the strengthening of the defense industry in Russia, the situation requires attention. He also pointed out China, particularly regarding the production of nuclear warheads and the development of its navy. He noted that if both countries continue on this path, it will significantly exceed the measures taken by the West.
"We must keep this in mind. Firstly, we need to spend more on defense, we need to assist Ukraine more, and we must be capable of defending ourselves if necessary," he emphasized.
Increase in NATO Countries' Defense Spending
It is worth recalling that the current head of the White House, Donald Trump, has repeatedly called on NATO allies to boost their defense spending. Moreover, he also threatened that he would "encourage" Russia to "do whatever it wants" with Alliance members who do not meet their financial obligations.
At the same time, in January, Trump urged NATO member countries to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP.
