Former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is confident that the war in Ukraine could come to an end as early as 2025, provided there is a significant increase in pressure on the Russian Federation from all sides. Reported by TSN. This information is shared by Kontrakty.UA.
He expressed this opinion during a discussion on the peace formula for Ukraine at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
"Wars are inherently unpredictable. Therefore, I will be very cautious in making predictions about specific events in 2025. However, ending the war in Ukraine this year is entirely possible," Stoltenberg stated.
He emphasized that the war is already costing Russia an extraordinary amount. The aggressor state loses approximately a thousand soldiers every day, has an inflation rate of 10%, a key interest rate of 21%, and is experiencing a mass exodus of citizens abroad along with a severe shortage of labor.
"Now is not the time to reduce pressure on Russia. On the contrary – it should be intensified to compel the Russians to sit at the negotiating table and begin a dialogue for a just peace," Stoltenberg noted.
At the same time, he warned that the desire to end the war as quickly as possible at the expense of concessions to the aggressor would have terrible consequences.
"The quickest way to end the war is to lose it. But this will not bring peace, only further occupation of Ukraine," Jens Stoltenberg emphasized.
Recall that Zelensky expressed doubts about whether Europe would participate in negotiations once the war in Ukraine concludes. The President added that Europe must learn to take care of itself so that the world cannot afford to ignore it.
