The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has expressed a firm stance on the possibility of freezing the war along the line of demarcation. According to him, this would create weak initial conditions for Ukraine in future negotiations with Russia, as it would give the enemy time to recover its forces. Reports TSN. Zelensky stated this in an interview with Bloomberg.
"This, to put it mildly, is not the best offer for Ukraine; it represents a weak position for Ukraine entering future negotiations. They lose nothing; they only gain and free up time to restore their forces, because I believe they want to come back again," the president emphasized.
Zelensky noted that the question of freezing the war would depend on the security guarantees that Ukraine receives. At the same time, he stressed that it makes no sense to trust Russia's promises due to its constant violations of agreements.
"I want to have this understanding before the start of negotiations because there are security guarantees that do not depend on Russia. And I will be honest with you: nobody in Ukraine will believe Russia anyway. Therefore, security guarantees from Russia do not personally interest me very much because what difference does it make what they promise if they do not keep their word? Guarantees have already been provided many times," Zelensky underscored.
He mentioned that guarantees that Russia will not attempt to attack Ukraine again should come from Donald Trump.
Additionally, President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the necessity of involving a peacekeeping military contingent to support security at the front along with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
