Mass protests against the current president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi have erupted in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Demonstrators are chanting anti-government slogans and expressing their dissatisfaction with the authorities' policies, the worsening economic situation, the suppression of civil liberties, and more.

This information comes from American political technologist Jason Jay Smart. According to him, citizens took to the streets after the Egyptian Foreign Minister had a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart, highlighting the need to intensify political consultations at the ministerial level.

Media reports indicate that hundreds of people have gathered in the central square. Additionally, protesters are marching through the streets and tearing down posters depicting President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. They are also chanting "Ash-shab yurid isqat an-nizam" — a popular song from the colored revolution of the "Arab Spring."

At the same time, social media platform X speculated that the protests might be triggered by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's announcement of a new administrative capital and presidential palace construction project, with a total cost of $45 billion.

Note: Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has been leading Egypt since June 2014. In 2019, following a constitutional referendum, his term was extended from four to six years. He is the sixth president of the country.

As a reminder, earlier "Telegraph" reported that on December 22, mass protests took place against the country's leadership in Serbia. Tens of thousands of people took to the streets demanding accountability for those responsible for the tragedy in Novi Sad.
