This is reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Bloomberg. According to Kontrakty.UA,
the publication states that European officials are working on increasing defense spending and supporting Ukraine. These plans will not be announced before the parliamentary elections in Germany on February 23.
For tomorrow, leaders from several EU countries have been invited to Paris to begin preparations for these measures together with French President Emmanuel Macron. It is likely that the summit will also discuss the possibility of sending European troops to Ukraine.
Bloomberg, referencing sources among European officials, notes that the Trump administration has explicitly stated that it aims to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine by Easter, which falls on April 20 this year.
At the same time, some European officials indicate that the pace of negotiations, which are set to begin next week in Saudi Arabia with the participation of representatives from the U.S. and Russia, is ambitious but potentially unrealistic.
Achieving a resolution by the end of 2025 is seen as much more realistic, one of the interlocutors noted. The White House National Security Council did not respond to requests for comment, Bloomberg added.
Recall that earlier Financial Times reported that Trump and Putin want to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine by Easter or May 9. However, no one has officially mentioned these timelines yet.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky states that there is currently no peace plan as nothing has been agreed upon between Ukraine, the U.S., and European partners.
Indirectly suggesting that the peace process may accelerate are the upcoming negotiations in Saudi Arabia. It is possible that as a result of these talks, a meeting between Trump and Vladimir Putin will take place by the end of February.
