In a comment to the YouTube channel RBC-Ukraine, political technologist Taras Zahorodniy shared his insights. This was reported by Kontrakty.UA.
He believes that the future Trump administration is currently exploring options to end the Russian-Ukrainian war. It remains uncertain whether Ukraine will regain control over its entire territory, but this scenario is becoming increasingly plausible.
"Not through military means, but through a military-political approach. It’s possible that Ukraine will regain its borders from 1991. The sanctions hitting the so-called shadow Russian fleet have given me some optimism. We can already see the cries and hysteria in the Kremlin," - Zahorodniy noted.
The interviewee also pointed out the statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that Moscow is ready to discuss "security guarantees" for Ukraine, as well as comments from Putin's aide Nikolai Patrushev suggesting that Ukraine might cease to exist by 2025.
"They urgently want negotiations with the U.S., which means (we are, - ed.) on the right track. Honestly, I expected Trump to take this up in the first quarter of this year. But either they pressured Biden together with him, or I think it was definitely agreed upon with him. Now Trump will not be speaking calmly to the Russians. He is entering a very strong position with them. If anything comes up, he can say: 'Listen, I don’t know, this was all the predecessor's doing, this is all Biden'. This, you know, is like a starting position. A very powerful starting position," - he said.
He also added that if Ukraine regains its 1991 borders, there will be no formal reasons to claim that it cannot become a NATO member.
Can Trump Pressure Putin?
During his election campaign and afterwards, Donald Trump frequently stated his intention to end the Russian-Ukrainian war. His plan remains unknown, although previously, members of his team outlined possible parameters in broad strokes.
Specific details are likely to emerge after his inauguration on January 20. Possibly following his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He has also expressed a desire to meet with Putin.
Regarding the meeting with Zelensky, Kiev and Washington are already working on its organization.
According to Zelensky, the chances of ending the war by 2025 exist. "Trump wants to end the war. These are his public and private messages. He is capable of putting pressure on Russia," - he stated.
As Bloomberg reports, Putin may demand during negotiations with Trump that Ukraine never joins NATO. It is worth noting that Trump himself is not enthusiastic about the idea of Ukraine's future membership and generally considers it a mistake. At the same time, his team is preparing tough sanctions against Russia to compel it to peace.
