Has the mobilization for those over 50 been banned? The Verkhovna Rada provides clarification on the matter.

In the Parliament, it is emphasized that men aged 50 to 60 will be conscripted only if they possess specialized skills that are in demand or for rear positions. Meanwhile, earlier, the Territorial Recruitment Centers assured that there is still no ban on the conscription of individuals in this age group.

Men aged 50 to 60 will be mobilized into the military only in specific cases. Reports TSN. This information comes from Kontrakty.UA.

This was stated by member of the National Security and Defense Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, MP Fedir Venislavskyi, as reported by Channel 24.

According to him, men aged 50 to 60 will be mobilized only under two conditions:

  • if they have critical military registration specialties;
  • if it concerns support units, such as cooks or repair personnel.

The MP acknowledged that units are effectively refusing to accept conscripts over the age of 50. This is because very few individuals over 50 are in sufficient physical condition to perform combat tasks, especially in infantry.

"If they do not possess an important military registration specialty, there is no sense in their mobilization at this time," says Venislavskyi.

He assured that in practice, "the number of such mobilized individuals is minimal." The vast majority of military units are assault units, and after the age of 50, "few citizens are suitable for assault troops."

At the same time, it should be noted that there is currently no legislative prohibition on conscripting individuals of that age. This is only about a directive from the Ground Forces. All men aged 18 to 60 remain subject to military service. The decision on mobilization is made by the General Staff based on needs.

Recall that on September 23, MP Oleksiy Honcharenko stated that the Ground Forces had issued a directive stating that men aged 50-60 can only be mobilized by specific mobilization orders.

Lawyer Marina Bekalo explained in a comment to TSN.ua, that this directive from the Command of the Ground Forces is not publicly available, as it is a document for official use only.

Meanwhile, the Volyn Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support emphasized that there is still no prohibition on conscripting individuals of that age. Therefore, citizens over 50 years old who do not qualify for deferment are subject to mobilization under general conditions
