Political analyst Volodymyr Fesenko made this statement in a comment to the RBK-Ukraine YouTube channel. This was reported by Kontrakty.UA.
"The term catastrophe may be too strong, although it is often used and partially reflects the essence of the situation. I would use a different term - crisis. At the same time, it is a sudden crisis that arose situationally due to a convergence of emotional circumstances. It was not planned, nor did either Zelensky or Trump want it; on the contrary, they wanted to demonstrate how well they negotiate and sign agreements," noted the political analyst.
In his opinion, the crisis that has arisen is also a logical consequence of the changes in U.S. foreign policy and the related factors.
"Unfortunately, this has been brewing; the abscess has burst - the resolution at the UN, problems that began to arise in the negotiation process because U.S. policy toward Russia, Ukraine, and the definition of the Russian-Ukrainian war has changed, which was evident during the exchange in the Oval Office," explained Fesenko.
He added that there were also disputes regarding the resource agreement. The political analyst believes this is just the end of the argument and that there may be a continuation.
According to him, we are currently in a critical phase of the crisis, particularly in relations between the U.S. and Ukraine, primarily between Presidents Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump, and a crisis in the potential peace process. It is a crisis of fundamentally different approaches.
Fesenko does not rule out that there could be negative consequences for Ukraine, and serious risks are emerging.
"However, signals from the White House indicate they do not want to put a period at the end of the negotiations regarding the end of the war. And this gives us a certain chance. I think Ukraine needs to somewhat change its approaches to the strategy and tactics of the negotiation process. We need to acknowledge a few things that should have been done sooner or later. Right now, we need to accept a single option for ending the war, at least under Trump - a ceasefire," he believes.
Dispute between Zelensky and Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Washington on February 28, where he met with President Donald Trump.
During discussions at the White House, a dispute arose between Zelensky, Trump, and U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance concerning the war in Ukraine.
After the argument, Trump gathered with his key advisors in the Oval Office. Later, Volodymyr Zelensky left the White House early.
Trump accused the Ukrainian president of being allegedly unprepared for peace.
It is worth adding that a signing of an agreement between Ukraine and the U.S. regarding minerals was also expected in Washington. However, this did not occur.
