- Ukraine expects NATO countries to provide air defense systems capable of intercepting new Russian ballistic missiles, - Zelensky
- Generals must be in the trenches, - Zelensky
- Umerov is already working with partners to acquire new air defense systems, - Zelensky
This is reported by RBK-Ukraine citing a statement from President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with Sky News. This information comes from Kontrakty.UA.
"You cannot extend an invitation to only part of the country. Because then you acknowledge that only this area is Ukraine, while the other is Russia. Legally, we cannot recognize the occupied territories as territories of Russia. And we cannot make a mistake in this matter," the president stated.
According to him, the invitation to NATO must reflect Ukraine's internationally recognized borders.
"If we want to stop the active phase of the war, we need to bring the territories of Ukraine under our control under NATO's umbrella. This needs to be done swiftly. Then Ukraine will be able to recover the occupied territories through diplomatic means," he said.
Zelensky noted that Ukraine has never considered such a proposal, as no one has officially offered it to them.
Ukraine's NATO Membership
It is worth recalling that Ukraine hoped to receive an official invitation to NATO at the July summit in Washington, but this did not happen.
Kyiv insists on establishing a clear timeline for membership, but no specific decisions have been made yet. The Alliance assures that the "door to NATO" remains open, but membership is impossible until the war is over.
President Volodymyr Zelensky considers an invitation to NATO crucial for Ukraine's victory and aims to achieve this before a potential return of Donald Trump to the presidency of the United States, fearing changes in American policy.
Additionally, today the media reported that Ukraine has called on NATO to grant it an invitation to join the Alliance at the meeting scheduled for December 3-4 in Brussels.
