Ukraine has fought bravely, but the large-scale war against Russia will not conclude with a victory akin to that of World War II. Writes TSN. This was reported by Kontrakty.UA.
This information was shared by the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, during the Munich Security Conference on February 15.
"Let’s be completely honest, you have made extraordinary sacrifices; Ukraine has fought very valiantly. I have been in Ukraine, quite far in the east, I saw Izium and similar places. I know what you are facing. The first thing that needs to be done is to stop the bleeding, and then we can treat it further. We cannot save lives if a person continues to bleed. Whatever it is, whatever the plan may be, it needs to be well thought out. However, the question is whether you want to continue fighting or whether you want to postpone it for the long term... The Chancellor of Germany wanted to unify Germany, but he looked at the long-term perspective and said, well, this is probably how it will look in the future. If we look at the Baltic countries that were occupied by the Soviet Union, the United States never recognized that; they said, 'You can occupy, but we do not recognize that this is your territory.' So this is just part of the process, and it’s important to understand how this will look. If you think about victory in the context of World War II, the signing of a peace treaty—this will probably not happen. We need to look at this a bit differently—in the long term," he emphasized.
Keith Kellogg also explained what the U.S. plan regarding Russia entails.
"And so we want to send a message that aggression is unacceptable. We want a sovereign free country, but we cannot shy away from this issue. We also cannot be so naïve as to simply hope. Hope and expectation are not messages; there is reality. And part of that reality is that we want Ukraine to be a sovereign, successful, and stable country. And for that, we need to stop Russian aggression, and we understand that," he concluded.
Earlier, Kellogg explained what Putin must do for the war to stop.
