Orban suggested a "trick" to extend the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine.

Hungary is in discussions with Russia and Ukraine regarding the continuation of Russian gas supplies through its territory. This comes despite the fact that gas imports from Russia are now being conducted via the "Turkish Stream" pipeline.

This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, as reported by RBK-Ukraine referencing Reuters. This information is also covered by Kontrakty.UA.

"We are currently trying a trick... that if the gas arrives on Ukrainian territory, it will no longer be Russian but will belong to the buyers. Thus, the gas coming into Ukraine will not be Russian but will be Hungarian," he announced at a briefing.

Orban added that negotiations are ongoing, and it remains unclear whether the Russian partner and Ukraine will agree to this, but Hungary will not abandon the Ukrainian transit route for gas supplies.

Zelensky's Position on Gas Transit from Russia to Europe

Recall that recently President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine will not pump Russian gas in any form. He also identified the only possible scenario under which gas transit through Ukraine could be feasible.
