- Russia has expansionist intentions towards Turkey - expert
In a comment to the YouTube channel RBC-Ukraine, the head of the Center for Applied Political Studies "Penta," Volodymyr Fesenko, shared his insights. This was reported by Kontrakty.UA.
According to Fesenko, a "parade" of peace plans regarding Ukraine is beginning among political leaders. This will be particularly evident at the G20 leaders' summit in Brazil.
"Most likely, this will be discussed publicly, and there will be conversations with Lavrov about how ready Russia is to end the war," says Fesenko.
He also believes that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's peace plan serves as a signal to Donald Trump.
"Regarding Erdoğan and his plan - he appears to be passing the ball to the Americans and Trump. The essence of what he said closely resembles some ideas already being promoted by Trump's team. For instance, Trump talks about a 20-year moratorium on Ukraine's NATO membership, while Erdoğan proposes 10 years. Additionally, the demilitarized zone is also a classic concept for ending wars, a ceasefire along the front line. However, Erdoğan also has specific ideas," noted Fesenko.
Fesenko pointed out that Erdoğan's plan is quite specific, and other partners might consider it.
"With this plan, Erdoğan is passing the ball to Trump. He is saying: I am also for peace and ready to help. For example, like in 2022, to provide a platform for negotiations and act as a mediator. The Americans, and this will be a challenge for them, need to decide whether they are ready to participate directly in the negotiations. They will initiate them, but we don't know how prepared they are to engage in ongoing talks. Perhaps a mediator will be needed to assist in this process, and Erdoğan is demonstrating that he is willing to be such a mediator," Fesenko remarked.
Previously, we reported that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan plans to present his own proposal for freezing the war in Ukraine during the G20 summit. This proposal also includes postponing discussions on NATO membership.
