The Moldovan delegation made this statement at the Joint Control Commission, as reported by RBK-Ukraine referencing NewsMaker. This information is also reported by Kontakty.UA.
According to the delegation, during the commission meeting, "representatives" of Transnistria announced a reduction in the number of checkpoints in the region.
"The information will be verified on-site by military observers from the Joint Peacekeeping Forces, who will move along planned routes and provide detailed reports," the delegation noted.
They added that Moldova has been advocating for the elimination of all unauthorized checkpoints on the "border" with Transnistria for several years.
The Moldovan government previously stated that the dismantling of checkpoints in Transnistria was one of the conditions for gas supplies to the region.
The "authorities" of Transnistria established 33 checkpoints back in 2022. Since then, their number has decreased, with only 11 remaining active.
Gas Issues in Transnistria
It is worth noting that gas supplies to Transnistria ceased after Ukraine halted the transit of Russian gas. This situation led to a crisis in the region, resulting in rolling blackouts.
Moldova agreed to assist the region with gas supplies - which began on February 1.
