This is reported by RBK-Ukraine, referencing an article by Dr. Steven Blank, a senior researcher at the Foreign Policy Research Institute. The information comes from Kontrakty.UA.
According to the expert, Kremlin propagandists claim that the reactors No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant will be unsafe when using American nuclear fuel from Westinghouse. However, Westinghouse itself has confirmed, after extensive evaluations, the safety of operating reactors on American fuel and the feasibility of installing equipment at the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant. The process is expected to proceed with technical support from Westinghouse.
Blank also notes that the Kremlin promotes disinformation suggesting that Ukraine does not need new large power units and that the country lacks sufficiently trained specialists to operate them. In Blank's opinion, both statements are unfounded. He emphasizes that more than 5,000 highly qualified nuclear specialists are working in Ukraine, capable of ensuring the safe operation of the plant.
"Ukraine critically needs new energy capacities due to Russian attacks on its energy system. Completing the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant will help compensate for losses and reduce dependence on electricity imports, allowing Ukraine to become a net exporter," the expert states.
Blank emphasizes that this case is part of a broader hybrid war that Russia is waging in Europe, and that the Bulgarian parliament must resist Russian influence by facilitating the transfer of reactors to Ukraine.
