According to the publication, the measures include freezing assets and imposing travel bans on over 50 individuals and around 30 entities.
Among them are a Chinese company that violated EU trade restrictions, a firm from Hong Kong that supplied banned microelectronic components to Russia, and North Korean officials supporting Moscow's military actions.
The European Commission has also proposed restricting access to ports and services for 45 Russian oil tankers to increase pressure on Moscow's revenues. The list includes companies supplying key components for strike drones.
The foreign ministers of the G7 countries, discussing measures against countries supporting Russia in Italy, expressed their readiness to back the EU initiative. However, the new sanctions package must be approved by all 27 member states of the Union.
China, seeking to maintain neutrality and economic ties, has repeatedly stated its non-involvement in providing military support to either side of the conflict. However, Western experts fear that Beijing may move closer to offering military assistance to Russia.
Previously, the US and the UK imposed sanctions on some Chinese firms linked to providing banned technologies to the Russian military. The new EU sanctions package will be the 15th since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Sanctions against Russia
The European Union is preparing the 15th sanctions package against Russia in response to its military actions in Ukraine. The new set of restrictions aims to further isolate the Kremlin's industry from imports and prevent circumvention of previously imposed measures.
In October, the EU Council decided to continue the new sanctions regime against Russia every 12 months.
