As reported by correspondent RBK-Ukraine, during his visit to Kyiv, U.S. Senator Thom Tillis made this statement. This was also reported by Kontrakty.UA.
"This is long-term. It's not an immediate play. It's not something from which you gain value this year or next. This is part of a long-term agreement. Clearly, it should stimulate defense cooperation and defense guarantees. I believe President Zelensky and his advisors are taking this into account," said Tillis.
The senator noted that it is still too early to discuss a specific agreement, as it is currently under negotiation. In his view, those who think a decision has already been made are not directly involved in the talks. He emphasized that the process needs to move forward, as it is a key factor in attracting the economic resources necessary for the rebuilding and recovery of Ukraine.
Ukraine-U.S. Partnership Agreement
Recently, the U.S. presented Ukraine with a draft agreement regarding natural resources. It was noted that the agreement could be signed at the Munich Conference.
According to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the partnership agreement between the U.S. and Ukraine will serve as a long-term security shield for Ukrainians.
At the same time, according to RBK-Ukraine, Ukraine has revised the agreement and submitted it to the American side.
Later, media reports indicated that the U.S. proposed that Ukraine transfer rights to 50% of mineral reserves, which Zelensky refused to sign under those conditions.
Earlier, on February 15, Zelensky stated that Ukraine continues dialogue with the U.S. regarding the agreement on rare earth minerals. The discussion process is ongoing.
