Updated Composition of the European Commission
Recall that after the European elections, the European Parliament elected Ursula von der Leyen as President of the European Commission. This marks her second term as head of the European Commission.
In September, she presented the new composition of the European Commission. The college consists of 26 commissioners. Each EU country nominated one representative to the European Commission, except for Germany, which is represented by President Ursula von der Leyen.
Notably, one of the key positions in the EU was awarded to former Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, who supports Ukraine. She became the head of EU diplomacy. Additionally, Lithuania's Andrius Kubilius assumed the role of commissioner for defense and space. Slovenia's Marta Kos became the commissioner for enlargement.
On Wednesday, November 27, the European Parliament approved the new composition of the European Commission. The new college will begin its work on December 1.
