Zelensky's Visit to Washington and Controversial Negotiations
On Friday, February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky began an official visit to Washington.
After meeting with a group of senators, the head of state arrived at the White House for talks with American counterpart Donald Trump.
During a press briefing, a dispute arose between the leaders regarding the prospects for ending the war in Ukraine.
Trump stated that Ukraine is incapable of winning the war, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are running out of soldiers, and Kyiv should cease fire. U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance accused former President Joe Biden of unwillingness to end the war.
The U.S. president wants to end the war and threatened to cut off arms supplies to Ukraine.
Trump demanded Zelensky sign a peace agreement with Russia, otherwise the U.S. "would withdraw from the processes." However, Zelensky stated that this is very complicated and not as simple as it seems, since Putin has never honored any signed documents in practice.
Afterward, the Ukrainian president left the White House early. The agreement on the control of rare earth resources was not signed.
According to media reports, the U.S. may stop all military aid to Ukraine.
