Following Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election, Ukrainian officials and business leaders are exploring ways to convince the newly elected president that a strong Ukraine aligns with his political interests. Reported by TSN. This information comes from Kontrakty.UA.
As noted by The Washington Post, they express cautious optimism that Trump may act more swiftly and decisively than his predecessor, Joe Biden.
"Kyiv hopes to persuade Trump that Ukraine is not a charity case, but rather an economically viable and geostrategic opportunity that will ultimately enrich and protect the United States and its interests. Ukraine believes that by adopting Trump's transactional approach to diplomacy, which includes offering American companies lucrative business opportunities, the new president will help counter Russia's advances," the publication states.
Ukrainian President's advisor Mykhailo Podolyak remarked that Kyiv will need to explain to Trump the political pragmatism of supporting Ukraine.
"We need to provide the Trump administration and Mr. Trump himself with the most comprehensive information about the logic of the process," he said. "You are spending a small amount of money today to support Ukraine — on weapons, finances, etc. — investing and producing. You are completely undermining Russia's military potential, and after that, you dominate."
Ukraine also possesses significant lithium reserves — a valuable rare earth metal used in the production of batteries for electric vehicles and microchips. The largest deposit is located in the central part of the country, far from the front lines. It is estimated that Ukraine's lithium reserves could produce enough batteries for 15 million electric vehicles.
"Control over lithium means control over the economy of the future," said Volodymyr Vasyuk, an expert in Ukrainian industry who advises the Ukrainian parliament on economic issues.
However, not all resources remain accessible: one deposit is currently occupied by Russia, while another is near a combat zone.
As noted by The Washington Post, the lithium issue may even attract skeptics like Elon Musk, given his priorities in the electric vehicle sector. Additionally, last week, Senator Lindsey Graham referred to Ukraine as a home to rare earth minerals with potential value in the trillions of dollars.
"Ukraine is ready to strike a deal with us, not with the Russians. So it is in our interest to ensure that Russia does not seize this place," he said during an American television broadcast.
Let us remind you that Ukraine's capitulation would not only signify our defeat but also that of the USA. In the matter of ending Russia's war against Ukraine, newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump will not act on Russia's terms. Instead, he will seek a compromise solution.
