This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine. The details are also covered by Kontrakty.UA.
"As President Volodymyr Zelensky stated, Ukraine is ready to assist Moldova. We have explored the possibility of providing aid. Necessary actions to support our neighbors and partners will be taken at the request of our Moldovan colleagues," the Ministry of Energy commented in response to RBK-Ukraine's inquiry.
The specifics of the assistance were not detailed by the Ministry of Energy, but according to the publication, the option of coal supplies is being considered.
Last year, Moldova made requests for coal assistance for use at the Moldovan DRES. However, this was not feasible as the station requires anthracite, which is mined in the Donbas region. Such coal is not available in Ukraine.
Currently, the publication reports that the possibility of using a coal mix is being explored.
Energy Crisis
Recall that in early January, heating and hot water were shut off in the Russian-occupied region of Moldova, Transnistria, because Moscow refused to supply gas. This gas was used for electricity production at the Moldovan DRES, which in turn supplied electricity to Chișinău.
However, in mid-January, Moscow announced that Russia plans to purchase gas from Europe to supply Transnistria.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is ready to help Moldova address the energy crisis in Transnistria. "We are prepared to assist Moldova, particularly with coal. It is very important to maintain stability and provide all people in Moldova with the conditions to live peacefully and work for their country, to overcome poverty, and to contribute to our joint movement towards the European Union," Zelensky emphasized.
