The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, urged his NATO counterparts to extend an invitation to Kyiv to join the Alliance during the meeting in Brussels next week. Reported by TSN. This information was shared by Kontrakty.UA.

This is mentioned in a letter that the Reuters agency received on Friday, November 29.

In this letter, the head of the Ukrainian foreign ministry states that Ukraine agrees it cannot join NATO until the war is over, but extending an invitation now would demonstrate to Russian President Vladimir Putin that one of his main objectives—to prevent Kyiv from becoming a NATO member—cannot be achieved.

“This would be an appropriate response from allies to the ongoing escalation of the war initiated by Russia, the latest demonstration of which is the involvement of tens of thousands of North Korean troops and the use of Ukraine as a testing ground for new weapons,” Sybiha added.

The Reuters agency reminded that Kyiv's desire to receive an invitation to join NATO is part of the Victory Plan outlined last month by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

NATO has announced that Ukraine will join the Alliance and is on an “irreversible” path to membership, but has not sent an official invitation or established a timeline.

"I urge you to support the decision to invite Ukraine to the Alliance as one of the outcomes of the NATO foreign ministers' meeting on December 3-4, 2024," the head of Ukraine's foreign ministry appealed to Western allies.

It should be noted that NATO countries did not support the idea of deploying Alliance troops in Ukraine despite the involvement of other countries in the war on the side of Russia.
