This is reported by RBK-Ukraine referencing Defence Blog. According to Kontrakty.UA,
the publication states that Vietnam is also attempting to protect its tanks from potential drone attacks. These makeshift armored screens, known as "protective cages," are being installed on top and along the sides of the T-54 tanks. It is likely that Vietnam is adopting this method based on Ukraine's example.
The new armor consists of metal grids designed to reduce the threat from strike drones. However, these cages have limited effectiveness against anti-tank guided missiles or large munitions dropped from military drones. The screens provide a certain level of protection against smaller bombs released from drones and direct attacks from first-person view drones. Yet, they do not offer comprehensive protection against side attacks from other weapons systems.
The actions of the Vietnamese army indicate the growing influence of warfare involving drones and the necessity for innovative countermeasures. Specifically, Vietnam's efforts to enhance the survivability of T-54 tanks reflect the challenges faced by militaries worldwide as they adapt to modern warfare.
Previously, we reported that the United States transferred Abrams tanks to Ukraine without upgraded armor. This is why Ukrainian forces were compelled to seek alternatives.
