The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated on February 14, 2025, that it will be "very, very, very difficult" for Ukraine to survive without military support from the U.S., both now while it is attempting to fend off Russia's invasion and in the future after the war ends. "It will probably be very, very, very hard. And, of course, in all difficult situations, you have a chance," said Zelensky in the corridors of the Munich Conference.
"But we will have little chance, low chances of surviving without the support of the United States. I believe this is very important, critical. I do not want to think about fighting against Russia without America’s support," Zelensky stated.
"I do not want to think that we will not be strategic partners," he added.
The President of Ukraine also expressed concern that Ukraine will be vulnerable to another major attack from Russia in the future if the U.S. does not continue to provide military assistance.
Zelensky asserted that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to come to the negotiating table not to end the war, but to reach a ceasefire agreement that would lift certain international sanctions against Russia and allow its military to regroup.
"This is really what he wants. He wants to take a pause, prepare, train, lift some sanctions through a ceasefire and so on," Zelensky remarked.
It is worth noting that earlier Zelensky urged the U.S. House of Representatives to continue military support. He suggested that peace can be achieved through strength.
