This is reported by RBK-Ukraine referencing his speech at the main session of the Munich Security Conference. This information comes from Kontrakty.UA.
He emphasized that he is currently focused on the country's survival amid the war. Zelensky added that half of his presidential term was marked by the coronavirus pandemic, while the other half has been dominated by a full-scale war.
"I am ready to talk about elections. Ukrainians absolutely do not want elections; they fear that we will lose the state of martial law if elections are held, soldiers will return home, and Putin will occupy all the territory. Right now, we have mobilization; we are a single organism, a united country, and it is very important that this continues," Zelensky stated.
The head of state added that "the issue is not about him, but about the future of our country."
"Today, the question is about survival, saving Ukraine and our people. And if someone does not like it, they can choose another citizenship if they have property abroad," the president declared.
Elections During Wartime
Ukrainian legislation prohibits the holding of elections during wartime. This prohibition is outlined in the law of Ukraine "On the Legal Regime of Martial Law." To conduct elections in Ukraine, the martial law regime must be lifted.
It is worth noting that parliamentary elections were scheduled to take place in Ukraine in October 2023. Additionally, presidential elections were planned for 2024, set for the end of March.
Recently, President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the issue of elections in Ukraine. He stated that the position of all those coming to Ukraine is changing regarding this matter.
