As reported by RBK-Ukraine, this was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky. This information comes from Kontrakty.UA.
"It is also important for Europe to make a significant contribution to ensuring security. We support France's initiative regarding a military contingent in Ukraine within these guarantees and urge other partners to join these efforts, this will help bring an end to the war," the president stated.
Not an "Artificial History"
The president noted that the deployment of peacekeepers could be part of security guarantees for Ukraine. At the same time, he emphasized that the best guarantee for the country is joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). However, until Ukraine becomes a member of the organization, other possible options are being considered.
"The question is that it should not be an 'artificial history.' Effective mechanisms are needed. If we are talking about a contingent, then how many, what they will do if there is aggression from the Russian Federation, a lot of things. We are discussing this topic. It is important that we have started to raise such questions," he added.
The Issue of Sending Foreign Troops to Ukraine
The topic of potentially involving peacekeepers from Western countries to support Ukraine remains a subject of discussion. This idea was initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron. The proposal has sparked active debates among countries supporting Kyiv, but no concrete decisions have been made yet. Some states, including Latvia, Canada, Estonia, and Lithuania, have expressed their willingness to consider such an initiative.
Italy has taken a more reserved stance. They emphasized that the participation of Italian troops is only possible after active hostilities in Ukraine have concluded. Additionally, the Italian authorities stressed the importance of providing reliable security guarantees for Kyiv.
Meanwhile, Reuters learned how many troops the West may send.
