This is reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Delfi. According to Kontrakty.UA, the initiative for the legislative proposal comes from the parliamentary faction "New Unity," aimed at preventing harmful and dangerous activities that threaten national interests, as well as preventing circumvention of sanctions.
The bill pertains to both citizens of aggressor countries and legal entities established in Russia and Belarus, as well as those whose actual beneficiaries are citizens of these states.
Restrictions will not apply to individuals who have obtained the status of permanent resident of the European Union or a permanent residence permit in Latvia in accordance with the requirements of the "Immigration Law."
"In the context of hybrid warfare, to protect our democratic rule of law and strengthen the security of our country, it is necessary to incorporate essential tools into the legal framework. We are taking preventive measures to eliminate any potential interference from Russia and Belarus in our internal affairs," explained Lauma Paegkalna, parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of Justice.
It is worth noting that the Latvian Ministry of Internal Affairs plans to amend the national security law. The new provisions will prohibit citizens of Russia and Belarus from holding positions in the management of critical infrastructure.
