This is reported by RBK-Ukraine referencing Reuters. The information comes from Kontrakty.UA.

The Central Telegraph Agency of Korea (CTAK) noted that on Tuesday, October 15, military forces detonated sections of road and rail connections with the Republic of Korea. These actions have been termed legitimate and directed against an adversarial state, as defined by the Constitution of North Korea.

It is mentioned that sixty-meter segments of roads and railways from the northern border, which were established as crossings, are now completely blocked as part of a "phased complete separation of its territory" from the South.

"This is an inevitable and lawful measure taken in accordance with the requirements of the North Korean Constitution, which clearly designates the ROK (Republic of Korea - ed.) as a hostile state," the agency reported.

The CTAK television channel quoted a representative from the Ministry of Defense stating that the country will take further steps to "permanently strengthen the closed southern border," but did not mention any other changes to the Constitution previously approved by leader Kim Jong Un.

In January of this year, Kim urged amendments to the Constitution to remove unification as a goal in relations with the South. The leader accused Seoul of colluding with the U.S. to undermine his communist regime and clearly define its territory.

Last week, the Supreme People's Assembly of North Korea held a two-day session, where it was expected to make amendments to the Constitution, officially designating South Korea as a separate country and primary enemy.

South Korea stated that its policy is to continue pursuing national unification. However, Seoul is prepared to respond with force in case of armed aggression from the North.

Escalation Between North and South Korea

Tensions between the DPRK and the Republic of Korea began to rise in 2023 when both sides announced the expiration of the 2018 agreement aimed at reducing military tensions.

In recent days, North Korea has sharply intensified its hostile rhetoric, accusing the South of invading its airspace using drones and promising retaliation.

On Tuesday, October 15, South Korean military forces fired warning shots south of the border in response to explosions on roads and railways from North Korea.

Last week, Pyongyang announced that it would completely close inter-Korean road and rail routes and continue to strengthen areas on its side of the border as part of its pursuit of a "two-state" system, rejecting its long-standing goal of unification.

Additionally, the escalation coincided with reports that thousands of North Korean soldiers are undergoing training in Russia and will join a separate assault brigade to participate in battles against Ukraine.

In the U.S., concerns have been expressed regarding such plans by Moscow and Pyongyang.
