The international airport "Uzhhorod" has been transferred to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to serve as a European hub for civil protection aviation. Regular passenger flights are not feasible, even if the skies open up. Reports TCH. This information has been shared by Kontrakty.UA.

This was stated by Viktor Mykyta, Deputy Head of the President's Office, in an interview with LB.ua.

Mykyta noted that the airport could accommodate charter, non-regular flights.

"Uzhhorod airport can provide charter civil flights, which are irregular. The Ministry of Internal Affairs allows this. The State Emergency Service is part of civil aviation, not military. There cannot be military aircraft there; the logistics are generally unfavorable," – explained the representative of the President's Office.

Moreover, Uzhhorod airport is located quite far away. Therefore, Viktor Mykyta believes that it is easier for passengers from other regions to travel to neighboring Poland.

"From Kyiv to Zakarpattia, it’s 800 kilometers. From Kharkiv, it’s even further. When considering logistics, sometimes it is more convenient to take a train to a Polish airport and fly from there in all directions rather than traveling to Zakarpattia. We need to improve the roads and enhance railway connections," – expressed the representative of the President's Office.

As previously reported, a Latvian company is ready to resume flights to Ukraine as soon as security conditions allow. This specifically refers to the resumption of flights to and from Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa when safety conditions permit.
